Customs Advisory
End-to-end customs review delivers significant savings
Challenge
A leading Australian retailer engaged Nexus Point to review its historical import records to uncover opportunities for customs duty recovery and ensure compliance with Australian regulations. With a high volume of imports and complex documentation, the business needed a structured, detail-driven review to identify potential overpayments and strengthen internal customs practices.
Solution
Nexus Point conducted a comprehensive import file audit using proprietary databases and specialist software to analyse thousands of records. The project included:
- Import file audit: reviewing customs entries, bills of lading, certificates of origin and supplier invoices for accuracy and completeness.
- Classification and valuation review: verifying tariff classifications, statutory codes and valuation methods to identify errors and minimise duty where legally possible.
- Concession and TCO management: identifying applicable tariff concession orders (TCOs) and managing the full application process on the client’s behalf.

Results
- Identified over $350,000 in historical duty overpayments.
- Processed full duty refunds back into the client’s bank account.
- Generated a comprehensive findings report for ongoing internal use.
- Identified eligible products for future TCO applications to secure long-term savings.
Nexus Point’s structured audit process delivered immediate financial returns and helped establish stronger internal customs compliance.
